The European Union (EU) has strengthened customs requirements and implemented Import Control System 2 (ICS2) effective March 1, 2023. As a result, all goods (except documents), regardless of dollar amount, being shipped to or transiting through the European Union (EU)*, Northern Ireland, Norway, and Switzerland by air will need to have:
- A minimum six-digit Harmonized System (HS) code for each item in the shipment
- Accurate goods description for each item in the shipment
- The receiver’s Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) number
To accommodate this change, related fields in eShipGlobal will be required, and a new tool to look up harmonized codes has been added. Contact eship@mit.edu with any questions regarding this change.
If your DLCI does not use eShipGlobal, you can find the six-digit code using the Census Bureau Schedule B Search Engine. To avoid shipping delays, we recommend using MIT preferred vendors.
