Enhancing career support for research administrators

The Office of the Vice President for Research and MIT Human Resources are partnering on an effort to enhance career development opportunities for research administration staff within the DLCIs.

William H. Green will become the director of the MIT Energy Initiative (MITEI) effective April 1, 2024. Robert Stoner, who has served as interim director of MITEI since July 2023, has generously agreed to stay on through June to ensure a smooth transition.

Two new resources have been developed to clarify guidance for principal investigators and research administrators on 1) assessing and mitigating risk and 2) outside professional activities, in response to recommendations of the MIT China Strategy Group.

We have a new date for the International Activities Forum for Administrative Staff: Wednesday, March 6, 2024. (Event was rescheduled due to MIT closing on February 13).

MIT is completing work on an Institute-wide project to establish a laddered job structure among MIT’s research scientists, research engineers, and research associates. New job titles, conveying a job type and one of three numerical levels, will take effect March 1 in MIT human resources systems.

NASA Issues New COI Policy Requirements

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has issued new Conflict of Interest Policy Requirements, which will align with the existing COI policies of many other federal sponsors, most notably the US Public Health Service.
